The SMC is seeking students workers to serve as attendants at the Information Desk, the heart of the SMC.
Information Desk attendants will answer phones, manage lost and found, oversee student org key distribution, provide excellent customer service to guests, provide event support, and assist in the successful operations of the SMC.
This role offers students the opportunity to develop the transferrable skills needed to compete in today's job market.
This position pays $9.
00 an hour and includes a consistent schedule of 15-30 hours per week depending upon student's preference.
Flexible days, nights, weekends, etc.
Setup Crew:
Setup Crew members work a flexible schedule to assist in the setup and teardown of events that are scheduled in the SMC through the semester.
Setup includes setting up chairs and tables for events within the MPR , Promenade, and other areas of the SMC.
This position is scheduled randomly throughout the week and is dependent upon events that occur within the building.
Setups can last anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on the number of setup crew members present.
This position pays $12.
50 an hour to compensate for setups that don't take a lot of time.
Setup crew members can work as many/little setups as preferred throughout the week.
All setup communications are sent via Teams once hired.
Students may apply for one or both positions.
It is common for Info Desk Attendants to voluntarily pick up Setup Crew hours when not scheduled at the Info Desk.
However, we encourage students who only want to be a part of the Setup Crew to apply! Required Qualifications Info Desk Attendant Interpersonal Communication Skills Customer Service Experience Ability to work as a member of a Team Computer skills (Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
) Willingness to perform varied duties as assigned Ability to multitask and work with multiple projects at one time Commit to assigned work schedules Proudly represent Millersville and introduce customers to the many benefits of MU Availability on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is required Requires working nights and weekends Setup Crew Ability to lift, move, push, carry up to 25-30 lbs Ability to work as a member of a team Positive attitude Flexible hours Preferred Qualifications Info Desk Attendant Knowledge of Millersville University and its many resources, offerings, and ways to get involved Experience with Astra and/or transferring phone calls Priority hiring for applicants who are able to work opening and/or closing shifts (6am - 9am, 9pm - 12am) and Friday availability Job Duties Information Desk Attendant Tasks include:
Serve as a University Call Center representative by answering incoming phone calls to the University's main phone line, transferring callers to requested on-campus offices and/or personnel, answering general inquiries, and problem-solving Manage the SMC Information Desk and assist on-site customers with general facility questions, directions, on-site event/activity information, helpful University policies and procedures, and other general inquiries Provide exceptional customer service during all customer interactions (verbal, nonverbal, written) Facilitate the SMC key check-out process for student organizations and building personnel Facilitate room unlocks for customers who have spaces reserved within the SMC in the absence of a shift manager Assist student organizations in retrieving organization mail from the SMC Mail Center Dispense first-aid supplies as needed Report general maintenance issues to University Facilities and ensure maintenance radio is in working condition and charged during scheduled shift Maintain a willingness to assist facility users in any reasonable requests to support programming, including last-minute changes to room reservations, setup information, etc.
Create a friendly and positive work environment for student info desk employees, MU employees, facility users, customers, etc.
by contributing to SMC Operations as a positive and professional team player Record and relay any pertinent information regarding challenges, concerns, or other occurrences during your shift to the supervisor on duty Contribute to the process of identifying and sharing positive and critical feedback for Student Memorial Center Operations policies, procedures, and practices Assist in the collection and retrieval of displaced items and management of the lost-and-found center Occasionally assist in the facilitation and management of special events and activities sponsored by the Student Memorial Center Assist in closing of the building by completing a nightly walk-through of the facility with a shift manager Follow and enforce all federal and state laws as well as review, follow, and enforce all policies outlined in the Millersville University Student Handbook, Student Memorial Center Employee Manual, etc.
Participate in trainings and ongoing professional development opportunities as required by supervisor Setup Crew Member Assist in the setup/teardown of events in the SMC such as Open Houses, meetings, UAB activities, concerts, speakers, etc.
Setup crew consists of moving furniture ONLY and does not include audio/sound/lighting.
